No. 1 Whitehall Riverside was the first building to be delivered by Town Centre Securities on their Whitehall Riverside site and as such was required to set a quality benchmark for subsequent neighbouring development.
Jonathan whilst at careyjones architects was the director responsible for the building, which delivers office accommodation on eight floors totalling approximately 126,000sqft. The building takes full advantage of its south facing riverside location and the amenity that this brings.
The 16.5m clear span floorplates provide very flexible office space for either open plan or cellular accommodation and are themselves wrapped in a 'U' shape around the main circulation core. This main core and associated atrium in turn presents itself to the river and can be clearly seen by rail users as they approach Leeds City Station.
The structural glazing to the atrium is hung from the roof and is flanked by Jura Limestone cladding which is also used on the atrium floor. The cladding to the remainder of the building is a combination of unitised curtain wall and aluminium rain-screen cladding. The entrance and fire escape core provide the opportunity for feature night time illumination to promote the landmark nature of this building.
